Meeting point for architecture and dance.
The apartment is situated in a block of flats built in the '80s. It was fully reconstructed to accommodate a choreographer with her family.
The solution that was applied illustrates one of the choreographic structures of contemporary dance: the "layers". Music, stage design, movement, light design, etc. could each be autonomous parts of the performance. The function of these layers is not to support each other, but to interact with together and generate new qualities.
In the reconstruction of the apartment 3 main layers were used: a) The "pockets-open boxes"; into them were grouped most of the domestic functions (kitchen, closets, storage areas, plumbing and electrical installations e.tc.) The structure of the boxes were two diagonal grids, opposed to the othornormal frame of the building. b) The “zigzag line” as a generator of spatial setting that act as destinations and trajectories of nodes of movement. c) The furniture on wheels, that are parts of the flat that can be easily moved to different places.
The design aims to create a living hive and activities hub. A living organism, organizing the available space into zones of various activities, like performing or living/eating, zones of interactive collaboration and creation, a space for music or films, and individual or collective living.
