Greek Design : 50 Years Vakalo School of Art And Design

The exhibition, organised to celebrate 50 years since the foundation of the Vakalo School of Art and Design. Included works from 33 distinguished alumni: Michalis Aslanis (fashion), Damianos Zarifis (set design), Yiannis Kokkos (set design), Kostas Koutayar (photography), Dora Mantzari (graphic design – Head of Visual Communications for the 2004 Olympiad), Nikos Panos (illustration), Yiorgos Patsas (set design), Rodanthi Sentouka (graphic design, emblem for the 2004 Olympiad).

The Vakalo School was established in 1958 by designer and artist Yiorgos Vakalo, poet and art critic Eleni Vakalo, painter Panayiotis Tetsis, and Frantzis Frantziskakis, publisher of the magazine Zygos, in order to cover a lack of applied visual arts training in Greece. The principle on which the School was founded, and continues to exist, is to provide comprehensive education and overall formation of the students' personality.
